On February 4th and 9th, PCA members were treated to the unveiling of the 7th generation 911 (991) across the Carolinas Region. Each of the dealerships hosted a special event revealing the 991 with extensive involvement from local PCA members. As a lead up to the unveiling, the dealerships had one or two new 911s under a mysterious black cover on the dealership floor for a week or more before the big event. The silhouette of the 991 lurking beneath the cover was a tease of things to come.

Each dealership invited customers and members of PCA to a lavish and fun party, consisting of great food, refreshments of all kinds and the opportunity to socialize. A few of the dealerships, working closely with Carolinas Region members, staged a “History of the 911” display to put the new 991 into perspective. These displays consisted of PCA member’s vehicles placed in the showrooms, representing the different generations of the 911. These legacy displays drew rave reviews from the attendees and great appreciation for the member’s efforts in presenting their vehicles.

The high points of each event were when the dealership representative presented a brief history of the 911, some referring to the member’s cars on display as examples, drawings for door prizes, leading up to a champagne toast as the 991s were revealed. After the applause and cheers died down it was time for the attendees to get “up close and personal” with the new 911.

Specific activities that took place at the individual dealerships are noted below.

Upstate Area – Porsche of Greenville

Despite the early morning rain, 13 Upstate Area members brought their cars to participate in the "History of the 911" showroom display. Once all the vehicles were placed inside the complex and wiped down, they provides a comprehensive perspective of the 911, covering every model grouping of 911 and also a couple of 356s to show the family heritage. There was also a PCA member Show & Shine gathering in front of the dealership prior to the event kick-off. In all, there were over 220 guests in attendance.

The main event began with our special guest, Erika Powell, the current Miss South Carolina USA, singing a couple of songs. Erika was also available all evening for photo opportunities with guests and the New 911 or their own vehicles. We then presented an award to Mike Burgess, General Manager of Porsche of Greenville, recognizing the strides they have made in forming a close relationship with the Carolina's Region over the past year. Mike announced that effective February 1st; anyone purchasing a new or used Porsche will receive a one-year membership to PCA courtesy of the dealership. After the speeches, everyone raised a champagne glass, as the Carrara White 991 was uncovered for all to see.

Thanks to Mike and the staff at Porsche of Greenville for putting on a great event, to Lloyd and Karla Kuhn for arranging for Erika Powell to be part of the event and a special thanks to Erika for giving of her time and talent entertaining the crowd and posing for hundreds of pictures.

Mountain Area - Harmony Motors

An enthusiastic crowd exceeding 200 enjoyed great food, drink and music while watching video of the new 911. One showroom featured the 911 Legacy Display of past models provided by Mountain Area members.

After everyone had an opportunity to share in the food, drink and ambiance, Scott Wilkerson, Owner/Principle of Harmony Motors welcomed the crowd and spoke briefly about his recent acquisition of the Porsche, Audi, VW dealership and plans for the future. Scott introduced Charlie Schieren, General Sales Manager to unveil the next 911.

After introducing the Harmony staff, Charlie spoke of Porsche’s history using the cars from the 911 Legacy Display to highlight the progression of engineering achievements on each model leading up to the new 991. He discussed the design of the 991, the performance Porsche was able to achieve and his experience driving it. Then the cover was removed to reveal a sparkling Black on Black Carrera S Coupe. After reviewing some of the new features, Charlie invited everyone to sit behind the wheel and take a closer look at the new 911.

Mountain Area members enjoyed the event and were pleased to actively participate by providing the 911 Legacy Display. Introduction of a new Porsche 911 is significant, and to share it with fellow enthusiasts and PCA members in such a setting as provided by Harmony Motors was very special.

Hickory Area – Porsche of Hickory

There were approximately 40 in attendance with almost half of the guests from the PCA. Benny Yount of Porsche of Hickory and Porsche associates were there to show off the new cars and give technical details of the latest technology. They had two of the new 911s available for us to see. Unfortunately, due to the rain, test drives were not available.

As an added bonus, Doug House, who is a former 944 Racer and current Field Technical Manager for Porsche Cars North America, was on hand to talk to the members, answer questions and give advice applicable to our own cars as well as the newest technologies. This was a great way to top off the event.

Sun Fun Area – McDaniel’s Porsche

Guests were welcomed to the event at McDaniel’s Porsche with the tunes of the Sunrise Ensemble Jazz Band. The 70 guests enjoyed the delicious selection of seafood & tenderloin provided by Blue Marlin Restaurant & Chef Ryan Dukes. The program began with introductions of special guests: Bart Brodzik, PCNA Area South District Manager, Sandy Shirley, Area Director for PCA, and Mr. Bill McDaniels, Dealer Principal. Later that evening ABC Columbia News Anchor, Alicia Barnes, and Columbia City Mayor, Steve Benjamin, joined the festivities.

When the 991 was shown, with introduction led by McDaniels Porsche Sales Manager, Celeste Chandler, aided by Service Advisor, Drew Wix, & PCA's own Sandy Shirley, phones came out, cameras started clicking away, clapping, smiling... a true cacophony of motion occurred. To wind up the ceremony, General Manager, Tracey McDaniels announced the opportunity to win one of the 14 coveted VIP 991 Test Drive spots via raffle tickets provided to all attendees. There was an overwhelming response and those winners were awarded their Porsche lanyards identifying them as the winners. Over the following two days, all of the VIP 991 Test Drive winners went on an extended test drive around Columbia.

Metrolina Area – Hendrick Porsche

A crowd of approximately 250 gathered at Hendrick Porsche of Charlotte for the reveal on Thursday, February 9th. The group was a mix of PCA members and special Hendrick customers and they were treated to catering by Sullivan’s Steakhouse and a wide selection of wine and other refreshments.

Our thanks to David Foster, Hendrick Porsche General Manager, who did a great job working the crowd into a heightened state of anticipation before the big reveal.

Triad Area – Porsche of Greensboro

Over 300 people were in attendance at Porsche of Greensboro for this momentous occasion. The dealership set up a huge enclosed tent where all the activities took place. Tables were set up inside the tent, a huge screen located in the middle of the tent where videos were shown constantly featuring the new 991. Along the back wall of the tent were staged early examples of the 911 that were provided by PCA members and Porsche of Greensboro's customers.

After the unveiling, four lucky attendees whose tickets were drawn as door prizes took the new 911 S out for a test drive. What a great way to cap off a great event.

Triangle Area – Leith Porsche

The reveal, hosted by Leith Porsche of Cary, NC, was held at the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh with 260 people in attendance.

Sandhills Area – Porsche of Fayetteville

The reveal was hosted at Porsche of Fayetteville.

History of the 911 – PCA Members Provide Perspective

We would like to point out the Carolinas Region members who took the time to prepare their vehicles and place them in the various dealerships as part of the "History of the 911" and "Legacy of the 911" displays. These displays were greatly appreciated by all who attended the events. We heard from a number of dealership's staff members that the cars were fantastic and their customers enjoyed them as much as the New 911. Well done and many thanks to all of those listed below.
